WTB: 2002, near CA, Drivable 1975 or older

Hi all,

Looking to purchase a 2002. I'm brand new to the BMW 2002 world. I'm young (27), and these cars are all older than me. I've never been into newer cars and would rather buy a piece of BMW history. I need a project. Projects keep me sane.

I at least want to be able to drive the car home so I can begin a light restoration on it. I'm in Orange County, CA and am willing to drive 8+ hours from here to pick it up. The car just has to make it back.

I am looking for the following:

-1975 or older so I can bypass CA smog

-Running condition

-No rust (or light rust since it's hard to find one without!)

-$5000 or less

-Color doesn't matter to me

I'm not too picky but the less that is broken the better. =)

My son wants us to finish the Mk I Cortina Estate car we have so we are going to be selling his 1975 Auto (room for a 5 speed ) It has zero rust, suffers from a badly prepped ,surface not level, non stock paint job & needs tidying up , runs great , drive anywhere everything works .Front bumper now removed, was Pastalblau. Car is in La Mirada by Knott's. & is a daily driver.

FYI , James has decided to keep his 02 & fix it up, front spoiler , lowered & new paint so the Cortina is on the back burner (I have no time anyway to be honest ) So good luck with the search .
