Probably this question is asked before, so apologies for asking again, but

Can anybody tell me what the correct / most accurate RAL colour is for the CMR Alpina (R1-440, 5.5Jx13) wheels?

I recently bought a set and am getting them refurshised. Naturally I want the finishing to be as close to the original as possible.

I believe it’s ‘some shade of silver’ with a very light (metallic) sparkle in silk gloss with a ‘milky’ silk gloss finisher.

Can somebody help me with the right specs, which I can tell the wheel shop?

Hi Solex,
When I had my set of Alpina Borranis respraied I took the inside of my spare-wheel (that had never been run before) as reference. I decided to go for RAL 9006 "Weißaluminium" then, and had them respraied (NOT Powdercoated) with a semi-matte finish (called "Seidenmatt" in german).
I would do it exactly the same if I would restore another set...
Regards from Munichm Germany.
Michael

Far from great pictures, but they're what I have at hand. I'll take some closer up in natural light to give you the best example I can. The previous owner had hosed them down with some second cousin of cosmaline, I'm far from having done a really good job of cleaning them, I've basically just hosed them down and gotten most of that stuff off. 20210307_141635.thumb.jpg.214cae331d413ad33c2ff4bf38271411.jpg20210410_131333.thumb.jpg.cd3c646858cf081572bc67d028a50db7.jpg20210307_141702.thumb.jpg.77e56aba33dccb2c1296ffd05f5c1f58.jpg20210528_111946.thumb.jpg.7edd50f906299bbdba60c72cbcef940e.jpg20210307_141646.thumb.jpg.a8650fd8cc47d4073aca53a9c0fd8e98.jpg

And here's a pic from before hosing them off - 20210410_130211.thumb.jpg.978686d523c11b692401df9e55eb6b36.jpg

Wow, the gang's all here for this thread (again). Aloha to everyone! Happy Super Bowl weekend and Valentine's Day in advance.

Here's one of my Borrani wheels, date coded April 1968 (excuse the repeat picture post) This wheel set had a hard life, just sitting in an outdoor setting for some time. A professional wheel shop (I think Valley Wire Wheel) did the restoration, but without my input. Here's the color they came up with. All the best! Robert

This may not help, but it’s at least a vote for paint vs pc. I wasn’t allowed to know the mix that was used for repaint mine, but dang, the beige-grey color was amazing. Paint look so much nicer and period correct IMO.
