When talking about the Alpina ‘Lochscheibenrad’ (such as the CMR R1-440),

Does anybody know / have pictures of the KOEPCHEN-Spezial-Lochscheibenrad ?

See bottom right:

They must be pretty rare! My only comment or input is that I’ve seen a couple sets of obviously-old center caps that look identical to Borrani center caps, but which bear a Koepchen sticker.

Is it at all possible that the Spezial-lochscheibenrad is nothing more than a Borrani (CMR) steel rim with a Koepchen center cap?

Just to be clear, I have no evidence, and I’ve never even heard of a Koepchen Spezial-lochscheibenrad until this post! But maybe my theory can serve as a starting point, a straw man, until we have some facts, or a photo!

Best regards,

Steve

Just saw this request today, so my apologies for the late reply.  For some reason I don't get all notifications.  Anyway, yes, the conical ends are the same:

Thanks.

And which confirms my theory that a set of OEM lug nuts for the square taillight styled-steel rims is probably a very good answer until those genuine Alpina lug nuts fall into your hands… ?

Best regards,

Steve

In my eyes the "Koepchen Spezial Lochscheibenrad" ist just the regular Borran with triangle holes... Many things, also like the "Alpina ventilated Brake Discs" and so on were also sold by Koepchen and GS-Tuning under their names!

Had to do some digging, but a friend sent me this picture of the 5,5x13 “Special Koepchen Rim set up.” Like Michael said, it appears they were the “regular” triangle hole Borrani.

Thank you, John,

But wait… Koepchen installed center caps with BMW roundels? They certainly pulled out all the stops to brand those rims! ?

As mentioned previously, I’ve seen period examples of CMR center caps — I knew they were period because they were rusting out and beat to hell — with Koepchen stickers. I’d like to think a few sets of Spezial-lochscheibenrad at least came with Koepchen center caps… ??

 Best regards,

Steve

Ha! Yeah I agree, I did score a few items from the old Koepchen shop from a guy that bought a lot of their stuff once they closed. Most of these are all reproductions, but the caps were made by Koepchen during the time they were using these Borranis. Stickers are easy to make nowadays and high quality.

I only had 4 borrani on my wagon - needed a spare and a spare spare for a road rally next year. Just scored these - same 5.5" width, so hopefully the same offset despite the extra round bits, but can't check as they're with a friend in Germany whose bringing them down for me on the Tour Provence in October. The info is probably in this thread, just being lazy. Bargains are still out there - €150 for the pair ? although the original pirellis are probably past their best

75 € each for a couple Alpina steelies? ? Yeah, you might call that a bargain, Nick! ?? ? ?

Only one offset for the 5.5” Alpina and Borrani steelies: 22 mm. (It’s the 6” Borrani’s that offer two offsets.)

Wow!

Best regards,

Steve

Seller’s loss... I would have been willing to pay even €160 for the pair ?

Great buy. Congrats

Who you calling a “data fetishist”?  ? These rims are fat boys; I’ve measured a few 6.5” Borrani’s at around 7.9 kg. Oh, I see, I might be a data fetishist… ?

Then they'll be perfect. When it's too good to be true I always asume scam, but it would have been the crappiest scam ever so I immediately snapped them up and my mate already has hold of them.

A very good friend abroad I have been exchanging parts with for a few years, found an NOS set of the Alpina lug nuts and was gracious enough to send them my way. They sure are purdy! Now I just need to figure out how to get another set of the wheels…
