beltline trim

Does anyone have a pattern or diagram that shows where to space the holes when drilling for the trim clips?

I just found the drawing for the door in Macartney's book, I still need the measurements for the rest of the car.

The measurements are not at all critical. If you get the number correct, and the approximate location, you'll be fine. And, depending on how the original holes were eliminated, you might not want to try and drill a hole in the same exact spot - a little to the left, or right, might be better. There are some exceptions to this, namely the ones that need to be under the joints at the corners of the trunk and the hood, and the ones at the trailing end of the hood sides, and the leading end of the trunk side mouldings.

Yes, I am putting the trim on. I have always been unhappy that I didn't install it when I did the restoration. Back then I was hesitant to drill holes in the new body panels.

Bob, thanks for the info, that is what I needed to know.

This is blasphemy,, being a purist and all, but...

Do it the easy way, use the stick on stuff. No holes, no clips, really clean and inexpensive.

Why start doing it the easy way at this point. We want everything to be as difficult as possible. Perhaps I should repaint to the original color.

When you drill be sure to tape and mark holes, peen a small dent so the bit doesn't slip and/or skitter along. Then paint any exposed metal so it doesn't invite rust.

I'd go with sticker trim if mine had been deleted professionally, just sayin'.

Do a site search and look at pics before you commit...unless it's too late.

See you soon.

Napes is right. Space them however, except for the T-brackets at the ends and the joints. One thing, however, is to make sure all the holes are in as straight of a line as possible, otherwise problems.

Bill that information would be welcome. Also give me a call when things settle down by you. I hope all is back to normal soon.

I didn't see anyone mention this, but the size of the holes are critical. I remember on my repaints, when the beltline trim holes had paint in them, without using a round file and removing the paint the plastic clips "would not" go in. If you drill new holes, be sure to treat the bare metal with Rustoleum (or simliar) using small brush, before installing the clips.
