Looking for an early front sway bar: Any leads on a 77 parts car or single part.

NE1 know if the front e21 sway bar for an early production 320 is different than a late model 320?

The sway bar I have w/ part number 1-121-540 shows up as from 9/78 to 9/81 and does not seem to fit.

Part B:

The cars production date is 10/76 so real OEM shows part number1-115-872 as applicable.

Is the only difference the thickness or is the length actually longer which would seem to be what I need since the above bar mounts just shy of an inch.

Can you confirm that the difference is not just thickness but really the length of the thread end?

But what do I know

The Newark (California :) PNP shows a '77 320i came in on 6/28. Should be fresh enough for your needs.

The main difference between the early and late E21s (front suspension) is that the control arm design was changed. The sway bar on an E21 locates these control arms.

Most changes to E21s took place (as far as USA prod. four cyl. cars, at least) 09-1979/model year 1980, but I'm not sure when the control arm design changed.

The LCA design change is true, as the subframe design changed which dictates the difference between having an LCA with a bend (new) or being straight like the older versions.

The sway bar however is longer on the very first version e21 up to 10/1977 because of the subframe. Bars after that date are all the same.
