Did they have powder coating 40 years ago?

My first response to my plater was "this was in the '70s!" And he claimed he was in the finishing business 40 years -- that seems right given his appearance -- and powdercoating was common practice back in the day, but only on a large commercial scale, i.e., not available at your friendly neighborhood powdercoater. He had nothing to gain by telling me it was powdercoating as his current company doesn't do powdercoating.

So that was everything I knew about "Powdercoating in the '70s"!

But here's the first thing that came up when I Googled "powdercoating origins":

It appears it started in the '40s and '50s.

The arms on my car (74Tii) were the original black but worn thru in places. I used brake cleaner spray to remove the black leaving behind nice chrome underneath.
