Was black an option in 1973?

Hi all,

I'm going to submit my numbers to find out the original color of my 73', but I was wondering if black was offered because I see it all over the place in my car underneath the now red paint.

Happy to report 3000 miles and still going strong in my 73'. Best commuter car I've ever owned.

I found schwartz on 1972 and 1974, so I assume it would have been offered in 73..., anyone?

cluster, and under the back seat..... ther's yer true color

Your '73 was for sale in the Roundel mag in Jan '2002 out of Orange County, CA. It was stated as Red (probably Verona) with a Black interior.

Just re-read your post. Thought you were saying the car was black.

FYI, according to the Jan '02 Seller, the car had a "ground up restoration" in 1993. So the colour could well have been changed then.

The 73tii I had was black. I emailed BMW and they confirmed

Black was the original color. I was also told that it is a fairly uncommon color.

Fella I know that used to work at Eksten Autoworks, here in Rochester, had an original euro '72tii, his car was Schwarz
