Wheel well color?

Did 2002's come with body colored wheel wells or black wheel wells. Not the spare tire well!

As the rest said, body color over a body shutz product.

I brought the shutz out to the fender lips to help with that inevitable chipping that happens there.

In the 2006 restoration done by BMW (of the 73 Tii) they painted the wheel wells black. Any thoughts on why? Just a protection -- or were Euro '02s or Tiis offered that way?

Could it result in a better "show car"appearance, i.e., making the less attractive fender wells -- which are particularly visible on lighter color cars -- disappear visually?

I've not seen an 02 on these shores in my 40 years as an 02 owner which had convincingly original undersides that were some color OTHER THAN body color. But, as I believe c.d. points out above, I've seen Zeibarted cars with their magic "mud" covering the original body color.
