Since this one was close, went to go look at it at lunch..

Not mine, no affliation. If you want my opinion, I will gladly pass it along. Lots of body work on front fenders. one rear wheel well had rust forming. Lots of rust along the rear window. Cheap respray on most of the car. I did not start it as I was no longer interested in the car after seeing the "perfect dody"

I specifically asked if there was any rust, the answer was "no". Hard to believe I was lied to, as this is a shop that works on german cars. As they always say, need to see it in person for sure.

I don't like what I'm seeing. Paint scraped off at various places, Stant radiator cap, clean valve cover and air filter cover but otherwise yucky looking engine. Wonder what the ATF looks like if this car is described as having a "perfect dody".... Bright red? I think not.

I'd pay 750-900 for it. No telling what surprises lie underneath all that bodywork.

Shock towers look decent.

It does have a good smog test history. Lots of surface rust in the engine compartment due to neglect. I did not look at the spare tire wheel well. Engine compartment was partially painted black. It was missing the VIN tag on the body, however, door and steering pad matched (2392306) - probably removed during the respray

Did it have the number stamped into the inner fender on the passengers side? That's often overlooked in a respray and painted over.

A lot of '76 '02s did not have a VIN plate from the factory. Maybe they ran out???

Two of my '76s do not have the rivetted VIN plate.

just because they work on german cars doesnt mean SHT thers so many hack shops out there. sounds like the shop you visted was one of them.

That could be true as there was a sticker there and there were no holes for the plate
