Tii battery tray

those used on carbureted cars--it's a 41 11 1 813 503. It's shorter so the battery sits lower to clear the tii's long air cleaner. All US spec tii's--both roundie and squarelight--use the same part number so they either all bolt on or are all welded. Carbureted roundies all have bolt-on battery trays; squarelights all have welded-on battery trays; not sure about tii's but someone on the board will know.

cheers

also curious if the Ti tray is the same as the Tii or is yet a third variety?

+1 on this. The blog pics of Fernando Vargas' Inka ti show his battery sits very low. Might be an optical illusion though.

tray is the same as those used on other carbureted cars--only the tii and the Turbo use the lower trays.

BMW also had an auxilary catalog that determined some

of these differences through the parts fiche through #11 edition 7/76.

As Mike stated the Tii battery tray is a different part # (41-11-1-813-503).

These were welded in, not a bolt-in (all years of Tii).

In order of use and part #:

41-11-5-430-160 (1600-2 6V model)

41-11-1-801-894 (All euro models incl. RHD)

41-11-1-801-895 (73 > incl. US models)

41-11-1-813-503 (All Tii, Tii Touring and Turbo)

Also found additional part #'s

41-11-1-831-275 (indicates square light models worlwide)

41-11-1-833-007 (this one shows Turbo only)

From experience the voll cabrio, targa cabrio and Ti all used a similar

tray mounted and welded lower in the corner. Unfortunately BMW did

not differentiate completely this difference or part #.

With so many cars modified these days of cutting out or removing the tray

in lieu of the battery in the trunk the parts cars and projects help to

support the numbers. Having found errors in the parts books also adds a

bit of inconsistency to the parts game. The current websites with versions of the ETK do not usually show these old numbers which also adds to the confusion.
