Tii Gurus-Need some help

Recommended Posts

Right on Bob. That's a '74 Tii specific gripe there I would think. Have to have seen it, or been through it before to make that call. As I understand it, many 74s have been sold cheap because no one could sort that issue out and just gave up.

Looks like nearly everyone pinpointed the problem as electical - but Mikey S. gets the gold star on his forehead for suspecting the seatbelt sensor wiring as the culprit.

have this problem with the seat belt seat switch shorting out. It happened on my '73 back in 1996 and took me several days to figure out. 74's are even worse as they had a seat belt interlock that would prevent starting if the belts weren't fastened. I suspect these have long been disconnected, but the seat sensors are still live.

On a carbureted car it'll just cause your instruments to quit, but on tii's you'll lose your fuel pump and thus the engine will quit. Incidentally, if you look up under the dash, left side up against the cowl side, near the turn signal and wiper relay on 72 and later cars you'll find a green/white wire that ends in an insulated terminal. It goes nowhere on a carbureted car, but feeds the fuel pump on a tii. It's a great source of switched power if you need it, and a good place to check for fuel pump operation on a tii...
