Hey Hans The Gothic Line ran the whole way across Italy but the bit we visited was in a valley with a town called borgo a mozzano which is famous for having a medieval stone bridge called the devils bridge. The valley was supposed to be one of the most heavily fortified areas and supposedly when the Nazis retreated they were told to destroy all the bridges but the local priest begged the german commander not to destroy the bridge and so he broke his orders and spared it!

Hey Nick the pic is a castle somewhere near Annency in France. Our next trip will hopefully be for 5 weeks and head along the a similar route to start with so i think popping in for a beer could be a real possibility if you dont mind :]

well, to be honest, it should really be pastis, but if you insist on a beer. Alex on the UK forum (slu7 and NK owner) has also just moved up the road, so no shortage of bmw banter)

well Nick whatever you suggest we drink will be just fine! Sounds like good company :]

And to everyone thanks for the lovely comments! I'm really happy that i can share such a trip with people who really get what its all about. Jenny has been telling me that she is after a bmw! Possible an e30 as that was the car i had when we first met but hell thats fine with me! Shes really into cars and really gets engineering and mechanics and is interested in it. The 02 is such a versatile car and to be able to do a 3000 mile drive without real issue after 36 years is a real testament to bmw's commitment to quality engineering.

re Gothic Line fort - thanks. I'll add that to the list. I visited Anzio and Liri Valley last year. There is an amazing WW2 museum about 50 km SE of Anzio.

On the castle front, the one in the pic cascading down the hill is, I believe, east of Aosta on the autostrada.
