squiling sound after car sat some time

Hi, im having an issue with my 02. When car sat a few days or more when i start him and drive away first 100-500m it is squealing. Then the sound goes away. The noise what appears came from the back (maybe right back corner). Has anyone have the same issue?

Wheel bearing or something else?

the grease dries out over the years and it'll squeal (especially when the weather is cold/cool) for a half mile or so until the remaining grease warms up enough to lubricate. Sounds like it's time for a new center support bearing...

So if i get it right, the problem lies at the baring at the main shaft after the transmission?

middle of the driveshaft. The bearing and its housing are bolted to the floorpan and the driveshaft passes through the bearing. Best way to test it is--while the car is cold (i.e. not driven for awhile) to jack up one rear wheel, support it on a jackstand, then start the car and put it in gear so the rear wheel that's off the ground will turn. Work it up to 25-30 mph and listen with the door open. The squeal is pretty distinctive, and may go away after a couple of minutes. It'll take longer and longer for the squeal to stop the longer you drive the car without changing the bearing.

No guarantees, but that's what it sounds like, having had a similar situation happen several times over the years on both my '02s.

Is this bearing normal one and can buy it from skn catalogue or need to order genue bmw part?

BMW buys the part ready-made from one or more outside suppliers--like pistons, engine and wheel bearings etc. Thus a center support bearing that you buy from an auto parts company may be made by the same company that originally supplied BMW--or it may be made by another equally good supplier, or it may be crap from a third world country...

If you get the part from an OEM supplier like Blunt or Maxmillian, you can be pretty sure that you're getting OEM parts; with other suppliers, you need to know the part's country of origin--some are perfectly good (like Brazilian-made Bosch distributor caps), others, well...not so good.

If you have them...

But first make sure that's what is causing your squealing sound. No sense in throwing parts at a problem 'till you've determined the cause.
