Trailing Arm Bushing - Correct Way to Install ?

Recommended Posts

A stupid Trailing Arm Bushing Question: I have 4 new OEM-rubber trailing arm bushings to install. I can't decipher my old photos for sure, and since there are 3 ways to do it wrong, and only one right way, better check - do the fat ends go on the outsides of the sleeves? I recall seeing a post on this, but can't find it now.

i think your going to need a cylinder shaped tool that has a tapper at one end to compress the rubber lip. i did this a few years back but i used a tool that was designed for SAAB 9.5 front control arm instalation. that and a HYDO ram to press and pull the bushing into the control arm cavity. also use a very heavy lubricant on the bushing so you dont tear the edges off of the bushing. iv heard people say "to heat the bushing up to make it slide in easy" never had to take it that far.

It is very easy to either install or remove the trailing arm bushings.   I used a piece of 3/8 all thread rod that was long enough to extend through both bushings on one of the arms.   To install the bushing I put the nuts and flat washers on outside of the bushings, put some silicone grease on the bushings and pulled them in buy tightening the nuts on the all thread.  Worked real good.  To remove the bushings I put the nuts and flat washers on the inside tighten the nuts to push the bushings out.  Really simple!!

I have gotten a lot of help on this board, hope this helps someone.
