Take your co-pilots out for a ride!

It is with great sadness that I have lost my co-pilot of the last 11 years. Rikka, the older of the 2 White German Shepherds in my 1600, was euthanized today due to a very aggressive form of cancer in her abdomen. Her favorite car to ride in was the 1600. Sadly I was unable to take her for one last ride in her favorite car as the 1600 is in storage. I have attached a few other pictures of her in the 16. Please take your co-pilots out on a nice Sunday drive on Easter in your 02, they will appreciate it, and so will you. I will miss driving her around town and the back roads here in upstate New York, and watching her jump through the open drivers window to take a snooze in the back seat. Please enjoy your time with yours while you can! Happy Easter!

Sad to hear of your loss, I only know how much it hurt when I lost my shepard Spykes. The runt of a litter my wife was selling for a friend, about 12 weeks old his ears popped up and I knew he was my pardner, he traveled all over California with me and always made people smile. He rode shogun in my first two o2s and loved the wind in his face, he only knew we would land somewhere cool. Thanks for letting me share, keeping memories alive helps with the loss.

In your second picture I have never seen bigger ears on a shepard, awesome, whats his name?

I admire your resolve. I lost my 21 year old cat three weeks ago and still can't bear to look at his pictures. Thanks for the strength!

Thanks so much to everyone for your thoughts and well wishes! I truly appreciate the support. The pup in the 2nd picture is named Renner. (he was only about 16 weeks old at the time & his ears had just popped up!) Rikka was attempting to impart her love of the 1600 to him & we will make sure it happens this spring when the 16 comes out. Thanks again to everyone & keep your best friends riding with you!

I feel your pain, had to euthanize Joe, the family Golden Retriever at 14. Had been with us since our return from the UK and assignment to Ft. Bliss Tx up to my retirement from the Army. My children grew up with the old boy. To this day can't help the smile that comes to my face when I see a tennis ball. Took a lot of time to heal the wound.

When ever Joey the Golden Retriever goes for a ride and we stop somewhere he moves into the driver's seat and just sits there. People always comment about it. I always reply that he turns the radio up way too loud.

Our first dog (named Volks--full name Baron Volkswagen von Wolfsburg-- because we found him underneath our VW one morning, abandoned and hungry) loved to ride in my '69, standing on the back seat with a front paw on each front seat back and his face in the sunroof slipstream. When we went on vacation, when the motel wasn't pet friendly he would spend the night in the car--never messed up a thing, slept all night on an old blanket in the back seat, and never even jumped into the front. Amazing dog.

We've had two cocker spaniels since then, and they both loved riding in cars--especially with sunroofs.

We are currently dog-less--two of ours literally died in our arms--a very sad time. My sympathies for your canine loss.

Cheers

Hey, I like dogs too. We have a Rat Terrier (Addie) and a Corgi-Jack Russell mix (Fat-Dog). They just don't ride in the car with me. When I think of a copilot, I think of my son, Alec, riding next to me in Dieter. He has always been such good company on any drive.

Thanks again to everyone for your support! I struggle with missing Rikka everyday & will have a tough time when the 1600 comes out. Rikka was the one who loved to ride in that car the most. My kids like it but my son is more interested in his e46 and our e36 and my daughter prefers the mustang. When I was out working on the 1600, Rikka was always lying around or in it. If I needed to test something out in it, she was always with me. When she would jump in it, the only way to get her out was to take her for a ride. When we pulled back into the garage, she would jump right out! Thanks again everyone! Have a great spring!
