warm air butterfly valve (air cleaner)

I know mine's not a 2002 (it's a 1970 2800) but until I figure out the best place to ask questions I thought I'd try here.

http://www.e9-driven.com/Public/Library/BMW-E9-Manual/pages/en/13730040.html

This part isn't working. Specifically it isn't closing the flap to block the warm air so it is essentially allowing only warm air at all times.

I'm down in San Diego where most days it isn't needed (warm air). So until I get a part sourced and have this fixed would it be best to remove the flap (the default is to always allow warm air)?

It looks as though I can move the spring so that the default is to always keep the flap closed instead of open.

Thanks.

in my 20 years working at Mercedes-Benz dealer,

I would also find (the same as your link shows)

the flap thermostat not working. Never ordered or replaced

one - customer would never know diff. I would adjust

so flap was 1/2 way open all times - some heating

and some cold air passage

if your searching for a new 'operating' thermostat,

also try M/Benz 1970's 280 twin cam M110,

230 air cleaners to rob at a pick-n-pull

device prevents Carb Icing & improves performance

in winter

In SD, I doubt you'll ever need the warm air feed. I'd close it off completely and see if you can find a used sender unit if you really feel the need. I may have one lying around from my E3 days, but Carl Nelson might have something.

Thanks guys. I figured it really wasn't needed here, so I moved the spring to the opposite side to force the flap closed constantly.

I'll likely try to find one that works at some point just because I like things to work.

Then again maybe I'll install Webers with velocity stacks and not need it ;)
