Bmw Glas Gt Coupe

Hi all,

I'm hoping you guys might have some info/knowledge on this car....

A mate of mine and I 'stumbled upon' this car in a friend of friend's workshop, and as far as we know, they are quite valuable. The car is in fairly good nick (as far as damage or rust goes). It's got a bunch of surface rust, but it's straight and has most of the original bits.

Does anyone know what sort of money these things go for? I know it's a difficult thing to answer as it depends on the market, but we are possibly considering buying, restoring and flogging it again (internationally even), if it's worth our while.

Anything you could tell me on these would be most appreciated!!

Thanks

Oliver

I do not know their value, but the opportunity to see and photograph three of them together ---- you guessed it ---- priceless.

Your location could affect sale price?

FWIW

The Silver car (new resto) was on Ebay 2 yrs ago for a good while @ $60k. Was in Brasil. Did not sell.

The Red car (older resto) same seller as silver car. $30k. Did not sell.

The Blue car was for sale 5 yrs ago, non-running project, for $3500 in the US.

It's very hard to put a price on cars that don't sell.

I think that the 60K for that silver car sounds about right, but being in Brazil that guy's market is quite small. It might fetch that money in the US. Then again it might not.

Classic car's aren't clear cut investments. Some are, some aren't, but to tell them apart is very hard. If I knew where the prices on a 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet would end up, I would have bought one a while they were worth nothing.

That said, if you restore the car and have time to keep it up for sale for a while if it does not sell immediately, then I would suspect that you would make your money back on it.

Just remember, there is no such thing as a quick "restore and flip", and parts for the 1600GTs are expensive and rare.

I really hope you restore it, someone has to.

Regards

Jacques

Edit: You might find more info here: http://www.glasclub.org/index.php/en/

They also have a forum that more knowledgeable people can tell you about the market in Europe at least.

GREAT EXAMPLES of market activity above, and conditions

the car here in question?

need 20 more photos, under, inside, well exposed to see all the details,

plus all the known mechanical history. Does it run? why not?

so market value is $3000 .... $30,000 "depending"

happy GLAS hunting

p.s.

there a few different varients to this GLAS.

Different motors and running gear.

You need to be more precise about what this car really

contains for any intelligent value discussion

Very cool find!  So long as it's very complete as trim and sheet metal is pretty much in the unobtanium category...looks like a Renault Dauphine and a 4CV in the background too...

BMW_1600GT_a.jpeg......IF it's a Glas 1600 GT - it should look like this under the hood.

If not? then , well you have ..........

Hi Oliver,

I found this old post about a 1600 GT. Can you tell me what happened to the car? Did the seller sell the car? Thanks

The original poster has not been on this forum since December 14, 2015.  If he'd supplied the VIN surely 02Les would have been able to track it!
