Early Vs. Late Front Turn Signals?

What's the difference between the 'early' (63131351629) and 'late' (63131353861) US front turn/marker light assemblies (apart from a hundred bucks or so)?

And more to the point, will the 'early' assembly fit a 'late' (1/73) car?

(Yes, the PO stiffed me on working front turns, too.)

My '70 USA bulge turn signals had sockets for 2 bulbs  - one for the blinker, one for the running light.  Later ones had a single socket for a dual filament bulb to handle both chores.

AFAIK the signals fit all the 2002s.

For extra credit.

The touring with the "Rallye" package had the bulbous turn signals too. They are different than the US bulbous turn lights. Not sure if they are the same as the early ones John references. Too lazy to check.

EDIT: Checked REALOEM and the bulbous touring lights appear to be specific to the touring with the Rallye Package

The left PN is 63131354557 and appears to be available.

Following up for anyone wondering the same...

I ordered a set of the "early" turn signals from Roger Greenberg (Rogerstii), and what arrived was a set of bulbous (not flat) assemblies (I don't mind the look) with fitments for separate bulbs (one Ba15s, one Ba9s). They seem to mount up to the front fender just fine.

These are definitely the bargain option, especially when you consider that they come with seals.

Early or late US turn signals will be bulbous. If there is a huge difference in price, you could possibly get by with drilling out the screw holes which are actually a rivet and swap your old light bracket piece with the new so that you have the same wiring setup. That's what I did when I converted my '70 lenses to the euro flat style. I think there is a writeup/pictures on this site somewhere.

I was pretty certain that both my '67 1600-2 and my early '70 2002 (built September '69) came with flat lenses. I was the second owner for each of those cars -- I owned them from '73 to '76 -- and neither of the first owners was the type that made any modifications (knowingly). Maybe someone else (Mike? Tom? Les?) has some thoughts on the "flat-versus-bulbous controversy."

According to the Blue part book

63 13 1 351 629 & 630 (bubble type) were used FROM to VIN: prior to that they were flat blinkers

1570371

1663616

2531437

63 13 1 353 861 & 862 were used from VIN:

1572693

1677377

2532126

AND as Bill W stated, the Touring tii had "bubble" blinkers 63 13 1 354 557 & 558 for the "sport paket" - still available and cheap in comparison to the US bubbles.

Edited as I stated up to instead of from for the early bubble blinkers

Unforced error in my earlier post!

The early bubble blinkers are used FROM the VINs stated, not UP TO. Prior to those VINs, US cars had flat blinkers.

Sorry 'bout that.

Thank you, Les. My September 1969-manufactured 2002 (VIN 1668093, 1970 model year), however, may have come with flat blinkers. (Maybe they temporarily ran out of bubble blinkers! Admittedly, I was the second owner and the first owner could have replaced them.) I probably only recall because -- contrary to the current trend to move from bubbles to flats, er, I mean "Euros" -- I updated my '70 in 1973 with some of those "new-fangled" bubble blinkers. Now if those old flats are in a box in my mother's basement, they might have a date on them...
