Tom, thanks, did not know that and good info. Can you provide a citable source(s) for this? If so, Wikipedia could be updated with the correct info, and G. Serpent could print it out and take it to the dealership when going there...... FB

I can't think of a better source than the German '02 club... Ok, I was a little off. Looks like E10 is Model 71 and E10/73 are square light cars.

A bit of trivia... After reading the chassis code list on the http://www.bmw-02-club.de site where it mentions that the 1972 BMW Turbo show car is chassis E25, do any of you know what chassis E26 is?

I know the answer, but lets see if anyone else does. If you Search for it your cheating...

When people label the 2002 as an E10 it immediately raises a big red flag.  It's only has become a "thing" for the new crowd to feel special.

It is a 2002 and it will always be a 2002 in my book.

This Colorado 72tii has the European Type sticker on the RH fenderwell (car was purchased by the original owner while in England). It appears to say "Type 114".

Ok turbo owners  - what does the upper number designate on this underhood sticker for this Chamonix turbo?

I understand the VIN and weights, but what about "41.392"?

I maybe late to the party-but being as bitter as I have been called, I could not resist. This is my kinda thread.

Whilst on point with the topic. When did THEY switch from calling it a "Bimmer" to "Beammer"?

Every time I hear someone call it that I think to myself "clown"

But what do I know

When the newbies or uninformed confused bikes (beemers/beamers) with cars (bimmers). AT least that's my understanding for the difference. The cars will always be "bimmers" in my lexicon.

Bimmers are cars, Beemers are bikes.    This is what I was told at my very first BMW club meeting in July 1973 by 2 members that owned both.  The term Beemer was used very soon after WW2 for the motorcycles and when the cars became popular this was a way to differentiate between the cars and bikes.  The car people did not want to be associated with the "motorcycle hoodlums" !

as one of those motorcycle hoodlums..

Beemers are BMW motorcycles

Bimmers are BMW cars

BEAMERs are the dumbasses who drive around with their fog or driving lights on all the time.

and for bonus points..

E10 is not a BMW, it is a type of corn infused gasoline.

I'm curious. Is Bimmer an American thing or Worldwide? In the UK we (my friends with BMWs) called cars Beemers as well as bikes, as I remember. Never heard Bimmer 'til I got over here.

Back in the 1960s there was a race rivalry between BMW & BSA. BMWs were called Beemers & BSA were Beezers. During the 1980s when the E30 became "the hotrod of polite society" newly minted young urban professionals or Yuppies called their cars Beamers, some still do.

I call them BMW Motorcycles and BMWs

Beezer has now become synonymous with any BMW CCA membership number below 5,000.

Bob Merman, member #1, passed away February 17, 2019. The memorial service was held February 24th. 4 BMW CCA members attended.
