New 02 Owner In Austin

Well, after tons of research and shopping around for the right car, my girlfriend and I pulled the trigger on an Agave green 76. We knew it was the car we had to had when the past owner history showed it once belonged to a friend of mine from Colorado. From the looks of it and from the opinion of a specialist in Dallas, we could have easily paid $10-12k for this car, but instead, it fell in our laps at $5,000. We are taking it to Terry Sayther next week for a better evaluation of the mechanical condition and then we will have a better idea of what needs to be done. We have every part to a KoolerKing a/c that we plan on installing this winter. Other than that I would like to make this a handy little get around car that can be a daily driver with the occasional trip to and from Dallas. I'd like to upgrade suspension to maybe some Bilstein shocks and perhaps a brake upgrade (options?. But other than that, I'm not sure what else it needs. I am open for recommendations. It has a Weber carb already and runs well and am not looking for a track car. Just a fun car to drive around town.

My family and I all own Mini Coopers and are part of the Mini motoring club. Before that, I grew up with my father owning his own British car garage and restoration shop in Dallas. Cool and unique cars have always been something I love. The 02 is certainly a somewhat new discovery for me but I am excited to tinker with it. Small jobs like suspension and things of that nature I can handle but anything more than that I would take in to a pro.I might still have a pro do suspension work just due to time constraints.

It appears that most of the work needed is cosmetic. Some dent repair and definite paint work due to some bubbling on the passenger side door and fading on the hood (recommendations?)

The interior is mint for the exception of the roof liner and the trim in the windowsill is missing (recommendations?)

Will post pictures soon.

So I take it your in the Austin area?  Starting to be a good number of 02's in the area.  I saw another 02 up in Cedar Park last week turning west off of Lakeline Dr onto 1431.

Also, I have seen some of these with rocker panels that match the color of the car. Definitely something after market and usually is accompanied by the fender flares as well. I don't like the fender flares, but the chrome rocker panel molding that's on the car doesn't look quite as clean as some of the more "racey" color matching paneling. Any idea where those can be found? It just pains me to see the chrome molding that's on it look like it's about to fall off even though I know it's not.

Welcome to the fold, Andrew!  Good looking car... I almost bought an Agave out of San Antonio, last year...

There is also a Texas 2002 Yahoo Group that is pretty active.  Some of us are joining a BMW 5 Series group to drive the western Hill Country on Oct 18-20th.  We are meeting in Leakey and driving the 3 Twisted Sisters... Google it...looks verrrrrry twisty, indeed.  Should be a lot of fun.

I have contacts, if you're interested.

If not that drive, Terry Sather has a 2002 drive ( '02ber Fest )planned for the 1st weekend of November.  His invite is here on the Texas pages.

...hopefully, my dual Solex project will be completed in time for all this fun...

See ya around town...

Welcome to the '02 madness.

Your car looks more like Jadegrün than Agave. Agave is a darker green, and I think the only greens available in ’76 were Jade and Amazonas.

Have fun, you’ll get plenty of looks and thumbs up driving it around town.

The ss rocker trim you mention is standard trim. Looks like your car was painted black below the door, and came like that from the factory on with some exterior  colours.

Welcome!   Sounds like we need to have an Austin meeting soon.  There are a lot more not active but up for a meet.   Cars and coffee was big....and there is a pretty good meet in Cedar Park... saw a lamborghini and a Porsche GT2

Your car looks pretty clean by the way!!  Like that color.

And these cars are pretty simple to work on...
