Alex:  I lived in Alexandria from early '68 through late '72 because of my dad's job with P&G in Pineville.   I've been back to Alexandria a few times since then. I remember Leesville as very tiny. (have you seen Bunkie, though??)  My recollections of Alexandria/Rapides Parish won't help you much here...   I remember when the USAF base was still operational in Alexandria.  (England AFB)  Enjoy the southern cousine.

Alex,

Not much help here...like Jim, I too lived in Alex from 1964 - 68,  my Dad was stationed at England AFB with the 3rd TAC Fighter Wing.  I returned in 1972 to attend Army Basic Training at Ft.Polk...Tiger land.  You should have seen Leesville then !!

Earl:  A few years ago, I took care of a retired RN who'd been an Army nurse during the WWII years.  She said that Alexandria was busting at the seams with all the troops and support people. She worked at Ft. Polk; said that the town was hopping on weekends!  It was nearly impossible to find an apartment back then.  Nice lady.
