I'll be glad to hit  the "SUCK" button. The way they kicked out some of my favorite writers, Mike etc. It's up there with US Air kicking a  blind man and his  help dog off a plane and canceling the flight.  Yeah, that kind of  suck.

Oh yeah I just completed mine and shared my feelings about the Roundel monthly, its changes and why it is now a second rate magazine (Go Bimmer!) and Mr Carlson. 

Will it do much good? Maybe not but they know how a longtime member who just re-upped for a couple of more years feels about the Club overall and the Roundel and its (pathetic) leadership.

   The new Roundel is pathetic. Once a benchmark mag, now it's tough to distinguish the ads from the stories. Someone needs to stop the little egomaniac in charge over there. I have resorted to simply re reading 10+ year old issues. What happened to Bill Howard??

 

   If it weren't for the Legends show(cca membership required to participate) i would not renew.

First, let me say that I continue to value my relationship with BMW CCA. I'm glad I'm still writing for Roundel, albeit cut back to every other month. And, when I'm out there doing the book-tour-speaking-engagement-thing, I meet a range of wonderful, warm, enthusiastic club members. I've spoken at events that vary from white-linen-in-dealership-showrooms, to beer, pretzels, sausage, and sauerkraut at some German hall, with demographics ranging from 7 Series buyers to a bunch of twenty-something total track rats. But all nice people who are very into their cars.

 

Second, let me say that I have no particular insight into political machinations either at CCA or at Roundel (well, okay, some, but less than you'd think).

 

That having been said, I took the survey. Surveys are designed to find certain things, and it seemed like this one went to great pains to tease out information on how members felt about, primarily, their local chapter, and secondarily, the national office. But there were no specific questions that tried to tease out how you felt about Roundel Magazine. Only at the end were there two "tell us whatever you think" questions. I said:

 

1) I do like that the typeface has been opened up (easier on my 55 year old eyes).

 

2) As Bob02 said above, it's difficult to tell the content from the advertising (see Bimmer for how this should be done).

 

3) Not enough tech.

 

4) WAAAAY too much racing.

I was a member back when CTC had the wrapper around each issue.  I have rejoined several times over the years but let it lapse for various reasons.  Is there a better publication more focused on our small niche cars??  I realize BMWunderscoreCCA  has chosen to focus on newer cars and newer owner's interests and that's fine with me.

Haven't been a CCA memeber for a long (Long) time.  Dropped mine around 1996/97.  There was almost nil content then that I was interested in.  I can't even imagine what it is like now.  For me, definitely not worth the few dollars it cost.

Roundel is elitist. Lots of racing, concours events, a heavy focus on the latest ($$$) models, pricey motor tours, O'fe$t.  It needs more Hack Mechanic, more barnfinds (example: Wegweiser's F*Bomb), more tech talk, more grassroots members having a blast, more restorations, more long-time original owner stories. Basically: more FUN. (less time with Thurston Howell III)

All the changes happened at the same time, in the January 20130 issue -- the graphic redesign, and Bill, Mike Self, and Jenny Morgan being dropped, and me going to every other month.

I was a member when the Rondel was photocopied 5 page or so newsletter in 1970.  I rejoined after a long absence when I purchased my '72 2002 driver a number of years ago.  Frankly, the FAQ comes a LOT closer to duplicating the experience from the '70's that I loved.  I get tons of help here...good opinions....experience and a lot of fun just reading everything.  Where the BMWCCA and Rondel has gone has virtually no appeal I for me I discovered when I rejoined.

 

I'll stick around here as long as I have my '02........
