Sharing Some Vintage Race Shots

Strietzel, by his grandmother who thought he looked like a Christmas fruitcake (Stollen?)  Also known as the "Regenmeister" for his abilities to race in the rain.  I saw him lead the USGP for several laps in the rain in the Alfa Romeo in 1977.  He was the class of the field.  What made it more amazing was the fact that he did it with no clutch. If I remember correctly, that was the reason he spun in the toe of the boot & retired.  So....  On with some more Stuck trivia:  Most of you probably know where this is, but WHO was his co driver & what was the race?

Nice try,  I'll give you a clue:  It was at Watkins Glen in 1977, 6 Hour race.  But not Ronnie Peterson......  Keep Trying!

Can you imagine only racing nascar or similar and hopping into a 911 on a road course ? What learning curve that must have been !

You got it! BP. Benny Parsons. You usually had some interesting drivers and cars entered in those 6 hour races. They were great races when it was part of the world endurance championship. Usually had some F1 drivers too. I remember Riccardo Patrese in one of the Lancia Beta Monte Carlos, they were fast!

Just thinking about it a little more. After the track was bought by Corning inc. they brought the IMSA series in for the 6 hours. One year, local nascar driver Geoff Bodine drove a Camaro in GTO with Jack Baldwin and won their class. He was actually just as fast as Baldwin was and did a pretty good job.

That's Roy Hopkins and "Woodstock". He has won Targa Newfoundland overall three times in it with co-driver Adrienne Hughes. Just saw them up at Watkins Glen last weekend, Roy was chasing a problem with the crank sensor. It was funny, both he and I with laptops attached to our 45-year old BMW's gathering data, surrounded by much newer and higher power cars in the paddock. He was tuning his Megasquirt, I was just reading AFR data from my '69 to to figure out why I still can't get the mixture right. The sense is that there is an issue with one of the DCOE carbs.

Here's a link to another pic and a video:

Nice! Thanks for the info, Fred. Interesting mental picture of new tech and old cars...

These pics are from last year's event. This year's Mt Washington event starts on Thursday. Maybe Roy and Adrienne will compete?
