Make sure your accelerator pedal is getting full travel at the carburetor/throttle body.

 

The differential swap will certainly make it quicker if you want to keep the existing wheel/tire size.  If you don't recalibrate your speedometer, the swap will even make it appear faster.

my 1600 touring runs outa carb really early =4.10 gears 1 barrel  So slap a 38/38 on it a header if you have an emissions manifold run a min. of 2" pipe no center muffler back to thrush mini turbo muffler .You will like. My 74 Automatic even though it was fast after I did this.
