Golf Yellow '72 On Bat

From the pictures it appears that the car has a 2bbl manifold/carb, as the air cleaner is the larger one used with the 2 bbl carbs.  A 257xxxx VIN car wouldn't have a 2 bbl carb from the factory.  And I wouldn't swear to it, but the VIN plate in the detailed pictures looks like it might be a replacment.  The number stamps don't look quite right...

The owner of this car is/was David Lumbra of 2002 Restorations in Eugene OR. I have been in touch with him, as I found the car quite compelling. He just e-mailed me saying the car has been sold and has gone to a good home. Guess I can stop thinking about it now.

Regarding the carburetor, in the thread on BaT, David chimed in, saying the car has the original one-barrel Solex.

The Golf 2002 is legit, no excuses or funny business with the vin plate. It's original. That is not one of the large air cleaners. It sits above a stock one barrel Solex with manual choke, as delivered in 1971. Anyone near Portland might just see it cruising around. The new owner is a long time 2002 fan and will give it a really good home.

Thanks Rob for the kind words. I got my price for those wondering.

Mark my words. A 2002 in similar condition will be a 12k car next spring. Supply and demand. Minimal rust, original round tail light 2002s with no mods are rare!

Prices ARE going up.  I got very nearly my asking price when I sold Dieter a few months ago.  It was an optimistic price, but that merely indicates my general state of optimism, right?

Anyhow, people have been pulling more '02's out of deep storage lately. The prices keep going up since the '02 is a relative bargain vs. other classic cars.
