So what's the preferred lubrication for the linkages and throttle body bearings: oil or grease?

Last time I rebuilt the linkage on my '73 I used Mobile 1 synthetic grease.  Also have used TriFlow drip oil to lube the throttle body shaft.

Use a dab of grease on each ball and socket. Does not have to be some exotic EP grease, regular wheel bearing grease is perfectly OK, it is designed for much higher pressure than any throttle linkage will ever see.

It's a good idea to put a bit of grease on there if you have them apart, the ball sockets DO wear. I just replaced the linkage piece between the two bellcranks on mine for this very reason, and throttle response was improved.

 

 But, it is not necessarily a normal maintenance item, the grease should stay there for a long while . . . .
