What's Your Favorite Road?

mo02

Recommended Posts

My 02 always made me discover new roads.....so where have you traveled with yours?

Please post pictures of the roads you have driven with your car, there are however, a few ground rules:

1) Do not disclose information about the location, a friend once told me, 'don't ruin it for others.'  So please respect the sense of discovery for fellow 02ers.

2) Post pictures of pure roads or a road with your car only.

3) Try to post pictures where you were driving just for the sake of driving as this is sometimes the intention of a pure driving machine.

4) Try and also post pictures from drives you went on solo.  I am not trying to discourage group drives, but those drives you go on by yourself where you contemplate the 'meaning of life' are truly special.

Post and enjoy!

MF

I love this road, drove it several times in my tii.  I'm sure some of you will recognize the pic of this one lane bridge.

For those of you who don't know this road, it's Monterey County G16 from Greenfield to Carmel, CA. If you are going to the Monterey Historics in August, it's the back way into the Carmel Valley.

I wound up all over the mountains in the Willamette Valley in my 02 when I lived down there. I went up here every year starting in March monthly hoping that the snow was gone the whole way up. Usually turned into an "Are we gonna get stuck in the snow?" look at my buddy who usually went with me. Also enjoy this (2nd pic) road where I'm at now (pic is also of the last drive before I took the motor out). Gotta find some better roads though!

No secrets no pictures.

US HWY 1 from Carmel CA to Big Sur for lunch at Nepenthe's.  This drive is a family Memorial day tradition.  Everyone takes the fun cars.  This year its my 02, my mom's 3 series, my brothers 55 Speeder, my dad's Morgan drop head coupe, and his Ferrari.

or

Big Basin Way from Saratoga CA up to Skyline and down the other side on Hwy 9 to Boulder Creek or take the long way around to Boulder Creek on 236.  Finish with breakfast or lunch in Santa Cruz.

All good stuff.

I understand some would like to post location information...that's OK too.  I originally meant for it to be about sharing your drive or the road.  But if you want to share the actual location, then I am sure we will all agree that's not a bad idea either.

One more from me....the road begins at the top of the lake (first two pictures) and ends near the bottom (last picture is looking up the Lake).

Cheers,

MF

This is just one minute of an 8 hour roller coaster ride.  If you're heading south in late May, look into this route.. it's a test of endurance but the reward is that you see some of the most amazingly beautiful, and terribly sad landscapes of middle America, all in one day..  and then saying you have done it is just as awesome.

not the middle of nowhere, it just feels like it ....... full of very tight twists & turns & uphills and downhills and magnificient scenery ...... a very very happy road, because it is (hint hint) on the way to a 40-oz Porterhouse for dinner .....

here's the halfway point.  After ascending up up and more up from the south, you descend down into this Basin, then you'll continue north and again ascend way way up and over, then drop down to another canyon enroute your steak dinner .....  I've been on this road in the '74tii and on the motorcycle .......

I have lots of good roads from the NYC metro area from when I used to ride motorcycles over there I can post up. One of the better ones was 519 in NJ. It was close to NYC and not too crowded, so we rode that often. One of the best roads on the east coast that I rode was VA-16 from Tazewell to Marion. That road was so undiscovered (granted this was back in '08, so has probably changed a bit since) with no police presence that you could ride it as fast as you wanted.

Here's one pic from it:

And a pic from my friend (he was alright) who low-sided when he target fixated on some people that were at turn-off :( :

Here on the west coast there are so many good roads that it's hard to go wrong. The key here is just timing, so traffic isn't too bad.

For you Bay Area folks--the Quien Sabe road near Hollister CA...it's 8-10 miles of twisty curves that ends at a locked ranch gate, with no side roads...

I took a very entertaining drive in Dinan's prototype 210hp Mini Cooper on this road; only had to watch out for turkeys (the feathered kind).

Actually almost any back road in the Santa Cruz mountains around Los Gatos will have you grinning--they just have a little more traffic.

And here in SW Ohio, there's the Waynesville Road south of Waynesville and a few connecting roads--only a couple of miles long but VERY entertaining...
