Coker Tires Michelin Xas - 165Hr13

I am thinking about investing in a new set of Michelin XAS - 165HR13 from Coker.  After looking at the Web site it states the tires are Tube-type.  The XAS's that came on my 74 tii were tubeless.  I still have the original spare and it is tubeless.  I called Coker and they said they "think" they can be used as either.  My question is has anyone else purchased a set of XAS's from Coker and were they actually Tube-type tires or tubeless?

Thanks

Mike

In the old days, XAs tires were available in both tube and tubeless styles. Most factory-installed XAs's were tube type but many people -- myself included -- switched to tubeless after the tube types wore out. It was simply more convenient. Today, the XAs tires available from Michelin's Passion Division (Coker is the sole authorized U.S. distributor; Longstone Tyre in the U.K. is often cheaper because they offer free U.S. shipping) are marked "tube type." I have, accordingly, converted back to tube type. I have no idea what the difference actually is but you could try mounting one without a tube and see if it holds air! In the old days, you paid, like $36 for the tube type and $39 for the tubeless, so I assumed there was an actual difference!

Good luck,

Steve
