One Owner 76 2002 Completely Original So Cal Time Capsule

Available for sale is likely one of the most original and best preserved original condition one owner daily driven 2002's in existence. This very special 2002 was a first wedding anniversary present from her husband, after celebrating her 41st wedding anniversary she has decided to sell the car. It has been garaged all its life in San Diego CA, recently it was displaced from the garage and she does not have the heart to let it sit on her street under a cover as she is no longer driving it enough.

She has asked for me to post the car here in an attempt to find another enthusiast owner to pass the car along to so it may be loved and preserved for another 4 decades. The owner is not computer savvy and wishes to reach the right audience, thus the reason for my participation. The light patina on this car makes it feel like such a special car, average people cannot believe the car has not been restored, enthusiasts are amazed by its originality. A car is only original once, there is a certain essence lost by completely restoring a car even at great expense.

The car has been maintained by a couple different mechanics over the years and is brought in to the world famous La Jolla Independent for most major work. Carl completed the new window seal and windshield replacement at the end of August.

Exterior is a 9/10 original condition. All belt line trim present and only shows small dents here and there. The brightwork shines with a little patina. Brand new windshield and window seal, rear is also recent. A few dents on passenger door that can be removed with your favorite painless dent repair professional. There are a burn though mark on the trunk and hood on a sharp edge and a small one on the edge of the drivers door from a burn trough when detailing. All lights are uncracked with good seals (drivers side taillight has a sheet metal screw in it for some reason).

Original Verona Red paint shows extremely well for its age, no paintwork or accidents ever. Dime size surface rust on roof treated with por15. Small area of rust spot on trunk floor, otherwise body is a completely dry rust free California car.

Interior is original and in excellent condition. Only blemish I can find on the entire interior is a missing plastic panel that covers the drivers seat recline mechanism and deteriorated foam that makes up the inside of the sun visors. Dash has no Cracks. No wear noticeable on black cloth seats. clean headliner. Windows doors and locks function properly. Door seals are original and show their age with some mild cracking as pictured. All gauges work. Carpet is excellent. Floor mats are in good shape.

Trunk is in excellent shape and has original jack and toolset, all panels and original spare present and look great.

Completely stock 2.0l M10 and 4 speed manual. Recently swapped on a webber carb but have the original carb and air box. Drops a few drops of oil when parked and the throw out bearing makes some noise when clutch is depressed. Exhaust in good shape. The driveline is 40 years old and although there is nothing "wrong" with it the owner would like to see someone do a motor swap or mechanical overhaul to make it last another 40 trouble free years. Great candidate for a sympathetic mechanical restoration or motor/5 speed swap while leaving the body and cosmetics alone. Car starts, runs and drives well and can be driven and maintained easily as it sits. The engine bay is clean with no rust. The M10 pulls strongly through the rpm range and temperature gauge indacates 1/2 during all driving after warm up.

Car is fitted with lowering springs which is the only modification from original. The car sits very well on its this setup and maintains comfort as well. Suspension is tight and in great shape, steering is direct and the car handles confidently. It car cruises freeway speeds and beyond tracking straight with no vibrations. Stock brakes stop straight and confidently and have plenty of life left.

Wheels are original stamped steel 13's in great shape with off white paint that is believed to be original. All center caps with roundels present. Nice set of Kumhos with 85% tread remaining.
