Nice tool. I’ve been watching safety wire videos and the method is much better than what is shown in the BMW workshop manual.

I had a problem with the right strut. One screw at the bottom didn’t want to get in. I had to rethread the hole.

I put the safety wire following the aircraft maintenance method. I‘m not 100% satisfied but I must go forward. It wasn’t easy to put the wire in the strut already mounted.

I mounted the second strut.

Today’s new update. I’m really proud how things are resulting, although there’s a long way to the end of this project and I’m going slowly.

(sorry, the order of the pictures is from newest to oldest)

Very useful to tighten the screws mounted on the wheel.

Next step is to mount the driving wheel, the wheels, take the car out of the garage, clean and tidy up the garage a little bit, and move the car back to the garage in a comfortable position to work in the rear axle. I am not mounting the front brake calipers, because I will have to mount first all the brake lines.

I cleaned and prepared the pedal box years ago. As you will see the clutch spring was broken and the accelerator pedal was also damaged. Some rubber parts were missing but I managed to get them. I was not able to find the clutch spring. I bought a Land Rover defender kit which came with some very useful rubber parts as well. The spring is quite different in size, but adding a couple of rings, it seems to fit quite well.

I need some help. When I repaired/restored the pedal box, inside the tunnel of the brake cylinder, there was a kind of sponge that had oil and  it just vanished into dust when I touched it. What should I use?

  • 2 weeks later...

I put the steering column and the driving wheel in a provisional way. My target is to turn the car front-rear to rebuild the rear axle.

The car on its wheels is now ready for a small push/pull drive? 😬
