Seeking advise - replacing after market side mirrors

My 1974 tii has a strange set of after market mirrors in matte black - see attached photos.  I would like to replace with original chrome mirrors.  The mounting screws and rail doesn't appear original.  Can anyone suggest if possible to re-fit original mirrors with door holes, screws and situation I have now.  Are the original mirror mounting holes the larger ones in the middle?  The aftermarket mounting rail appears to be longer and is just screwed in the door.  Thanks in advance for any help.

That is an original 2002 mirror & bracket (later style)

If it ain't, it's a darn good copy !!!

Someone has added 2 extra holes & some paint at some point....

And the hole has been modified, there is supposed to be a recessed nut holder

that fits in the door holes and secures the mirror tightly to the door

Thanks for all the info.  So if I want to change to chrome / late style E10/E21 mirrors, then I don't use the larger inner holes or this style mounting nut (photo attached).  The mirror bracket just mounts by self taping screws into the door - correct?

your pic is the type nut used for mounting the flag mirrors...i have no idea what the largeer middle hole was made for & would just cover it with a small piece of metal tape or something similar

If you don't use the cage nut you pictured in post #8, you can remove the inner door panel & use short bolts with nuts to hold the mounting bracket securely onto the outer door.

The cage nuts require a hole that is a bit rectangular with a center round section - see the closeup at the top of the door in Buckeye's post (#6).

Use the mount in the picture !!! It may be an aftermarket repro but looks identical to OEM

No, don't use self tapping screws, they will come loose and mirror will fall off

You could try nuts as suggested above, but just buy the correct mount for ease of install and removal

I would assume this mount is fairly reasonable price

In any event, cost is less than the mirror you just screw in with self tapping screws and it falls off !!
