Sorry I don't know the story on your car.  Did you buy it with a rebuilt engine - or did you install one?  Most folks don't flush the engine when they change out a radiator or thermostat.  This leaves a bunch of old coolant and rust inside the block and cylinder head.

I installed a rebuilt engine about 5 year ago. Last year I replaced the the head whe i had an oil leak tracked down and did a 292 cam, new valves, guides etc. also have replaced the radiator as well in the past 5 years. So the heater core is about the only thing on it when I got it. That and the driveshaft and rear end. Everything else in the drivetrain has been replaced.

I can't believe that the core would be TOTALLY plugged.  A trickle more likely.  Time to take off the heater valve completely, disconnect the outflow heater hose and run a garden hose into the core.  Gentle pressure.  If there still is no flow then I'm convinced.

Hmmm...any way to clean out the heater core?  If it's not leaking it may be ok.  SUPER HEAVY DUTY RADIATOR CLEANER?

Anyone?

That's exactly what I did!!! Hose to the in and disconnected the hose from the out. ZERO flow. Not even a drop. I was pretty shocked. I grabbed my spare and it had the same flow going out that went in.
