We have been trying to track down the reports of Dianas in Iran, to no avail, so far.  We have found two quad headlight examples, however, which some have claimed were (or confused with) Dianas.  Both are Baurs, btw, but neither are Dianas.

Here is another that someone claimed was a "Diana' from Japan.  NOT a Diana.

Our best info is that there are 4 Dianas left, as Lars has stated.

Incidentally, I have seen references indicating that the Diana quad headlights came from the 2800.  Perhaps someone can confirm or disprove that.

Great information Lars - it really adds color to the thread and truthfully brings it to life IMO.

Thank you for posting.

Dual headlights on Diana were taken from E3/E9. Metal chromed grilles on Diana were special.

Later on the dual headlight conversions became popular over here to gain some of the "overtaking prestige" from the big sixes. There were conversion kits with plastic grilles sold for both the old and the new nose panel.

From the time the E21 was on the market also its headlight units were used besides those from E3/E9 (lights themselves identical, mounting frames different). You always had to cut out the original headlight holder section from the 02 nose panel and to make some adapting pieces from sheet metal yourself to get get the bits in the car.

For today in Germany many of the cars have been switched back to original. But on cars from France and Italy you can still find this conversions relatively often.

I think it was Hella that brought a conversion kit on the market with the two headlights in different diameter adapting the look of the then new EUR 318i E21. My friend Detlef still has a kit like that on his car.

Jim,

seems more likely to me that Baur used parts from the grilles of the US-NK

rather than those from te early 2500/2800 E3

to midify the 02 chrome grilles to Diana spec.

And yes: As the modifications were done by Baur they also used similar grilles on a small number of their especially customized targas. I´m not sure but I think the red one on your photo does still exist today with its metal flares to make the Minilites fit without rubbing. I think it was shown either at the Essen TechnoClassica or in Stuttgart not too long ago.

Best regards, Lars.
