steering and suspension Ball Joint to steering arm nut Help

Hi,

 

My new ball joints from IE came with a lock nut and not a castle nut.  Given this critical connection, it would seem that a castle nut would be preferred.  The old ball joints had a lock nut as well. Torque the lock nut to 30ftlbs and call it good?

You should be fine. And pack that pitman arm cavity with your favorite grease.

I am told that modern lock nuts are fine - use a fresh one.

How about Red loctite as well?

Just torque.

If the nut is tight enough, and the fitting is clean, the nut itself is the 'safety'-

all the strength of the joint comes from the tapered interface.

And a Nylock is a very good fastener, indeed.  It doesn't LOOK

as positive as a castle nut, but with only a few exceptions,

it does an equal or better job.
