Just scored some Borranis

Recommended Posts

... From Germany. It was a real bargain. At a 3-4 times under the real price. I was waiting too much for a good deal, somebody who doesn't know that these wheels are not just regular steelies. And finally found the deal, just had to use different name of the wheels while searching and.. they came up. And i've always been expecting that if i find a good set it will be the most common 6J. These are all 4x 6,5 J with some vintage Avon Turbospeed tires 205/60. Of course i will buy brand new, but these are good for test if i will have to roll up the fenders. I have also Alpina steel center caps for them.

So that's it, just wanted to share them. :)

Regards from Bulgaria

Great find!

I'd like to put these in my database of CMR rims (Borrani and Alpina steelies), particularly since there are not a lot of the 6 1/2" versions out there! On the face of the one, I'm reading:

KBA

6 1/2Jx13 ET8

CMR 4-79

R1/581

Is that correct? What are the dates on the other rims? Or are they all April 1979 (4-79)?

Although all the identifiers are correct for a set of 6 1/2" rims, they almost look wider than 6 1/2". It's probably just that ET8! I predict you will have to do some fender lip rolling to get clearance (the 6 1/2" rims are ET8 whereas the 6" rims are ET17 and ET30). User BLUNT (Steve P.) just mounted a set of the same 6 1/2" rims; perhaps you can ask him where he has had to make "adjustments."

Thanks and regards,

Steve

As soon as i get home and unwrap them i will tell you if the numbers of all 4 are matching. My suspension setup is Bilstein Sports and Jaymic springs which are lowering with about 1".

Does anybody know what should be the original color of the rims. I guess it's pretty much the same as the original BMW steelies?

Most of the Borrani rims came in a gray-beige color, not silver. Sometime very late in their production run, possibly around 1980, they started shipping them in black.

Below is one in my collection that still wears very good original paint. Most people prefer the silver we see on the factory rims, as the gray-beige color does not play well with many '02 colors!

Steve

Just used "CMR felgen" for search words, not the common Borrani name.

So, they are all one set, all 4 are with matching numbers. I didn't expect that i will enjoy the tires so much. They are almost new and perfect if i want to switch to a vintage look

If you ask how great was the deal - around $150 shipped to my door :)

awesome! Some day, I'll find a set with my name on them.

I turned up these on German Ebay:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Ronal-Kleeblatt-4-Alufelgen-4x100-6Jx13-H2-1979-ET-33-Golf-1-Scirocco1-usw/251976601241?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D31046%26meid%3Daf8a1f1d22ec444c80a8fb11f73e318d%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D24%26sd%3D261902946882

Ronal Kleebat wheels (although they look different that what I thought are Kleebat's) someone may or may not be interested in.

Awesome deal.  I had to roll and pull my fenders to get mine on with 205/60/13 RA1s. I have the same exact wheels in 6.5" ET8. But once mounted they look great.

And Ive said this before but the car now feels more like an 02 (light and nimble steering) with these heavy wide beasts than with e30 14" steelies and 185s. I cant figure out why but they do

Maybe a 13" vs 14" wheel thing. I put the 13" Opel wheels with 185/70 r13 tires I got from you on as a replacement for my e30 steelies w/ 195 tires....and what a difference!
