Spare tire hold down disc bracket for square tail

Looking for the spare tire hold down bracket for my '76 square tail - #3 in the picture.

Thanks. John

John,

My '76 came new not with the #3-style spare tire hold-down (rectangular) but with the #6-style spare tire hold-down (disc-style). I never, in fact, saw a '75 or '76, in the '70s, with anything but the disc-style hold-down. I assumed that all square taillight cars adopted the disc-style hold-down but I had little exposure to '74s back in the day, so I can't speak knowingly for '74s. By today, these hold-downs are all mixed up: I, in fact, contribute to this after-the-factory switching by using a disc-style in my '73 -- even though I know it's wrong! But I do it for a reason.

The disc-style hold-down has a dropped center that fits into the spare tire's 57.1mm center hub bore. This means the hold-down is more effective at holding the spare in place, without having to tighten the bolt excessively. And the disc-style doesn't "dig into" your rim, because it clamps the entire center bore, not just four spots on the center bore, so it doesn't scar the rim's finish! So...you might also want to consider the disc-style (a.k.a., #6).

Below is my '76's spare.

Regards,

Steve
