Wtb OEM shifter knob for 1972

As you'll recall, Gary, all '02s, '66-'76, came with the simple soft-molded-plastic, screw-on shift knobs. And, based on various minor differences over the years, I'd suspect various suppliers provided these -- the differences are almost too small to represent "re-designs." But I needed one for the '73 last year and, since these went NLA decades ago, I found that finding examples retaining crisp "leather-grain" texture -- or whatever grain they were trying to reproduce in plastic -- was very challenging. So "nice" may mean many things. I found one with approximately the same wear as my '76's original knob -- 105,000 miles -- and was happy with that (original knob on '76 shown below).

Regards,

Steve

Wow! I tried 5-ish years ago and they were still NLA. Good news, even if at a crazy price for soft molded plastic!

Thanks, Kit!

Someone should order one and tell us what comes in the mail....

We need a leader, Ryan! Someone un-afraid of ordering a $125 plastic shift knob. But, hey, unlike the roundels, where the replacement parts switched from metal-and-enamel jewels to cheap plastic, how bad can these new knobs be given that the original knobs were already cheap plastic? Uh...I take that back...

The one in my car is more like rubber than plastic.

I am also very fond of the shape.

There is flex to the knob as well.

Not stiff, like plastic.

'68 up VW knobs were black plastic.

Cheap copies have sharp edges on the bottom.

It does not 'show', but you feel it.  (and it sucks).

It is amazing how people can take a simple part and find ways to make sh!tty copies!

But we're talking about BMW here! Where's the love? Oh, I see, you're still annoyed by the belt-line trim and door gaskets that don't quite fit....

(I believe the original shift knobs are a soft, flexible plastic; real rubber is expensive!)
