ADDED VIDEO BELOW!!

Hello there,

Up for sale is my 1974 BMW 2002tii. This car was originally painted malaga and was repainted to mintgrun in the 80's. It was a full paint job including under the hood and door jams. These cars are really rare and this is a great running and driving example. This car would be a great daily driver, or a good solid starter for a complete restoration. I believe the car originally came from europe as the interior is rare cloth. Interior is in great shape as will as the exterior. Has always been a California car so has minimal rust. Feel free to stop and takea a look or email with any questions.

What makes them not original? Not saying you're wrong just curious.

they are just like the seats in my other 2002

It's complicated. Having begun my '02 experience in the U.S. during the "Hoffman Motors era" -- with its virtual exclusion of vinyl and cloth interiors for '02s -- I am admittedly not an expert on vinyl and cloth interiors. But here's what I believe. Vinyl and cloth interiors were predominantly vinyl with cloth only used on the central seating areas, not on the faces of the bolsters. Your seats have the entire seat faces covered in cloth, a style that did not appear until the Lux package, which began in '74-ish. But Lux seats, with their entire faces covered in cloth, used two very different cloths on the faces: one on the bolsters and another on the central seating area. Yours appear to use the same cloth everywhere and....I don't see any other indicia of the Lux package, such as a rear seat armrest, wood on the front door cards, Lux emblem, etc. (And, although I'm aware of at least a couple Lux-package cars in the U.S., I'm not certain if either was originally a U.S.-spec car, as yours appears to be.) Further, the pleats on the backrests of a '74 model stopped short of the tops of the seats, yielding to a flat panel of vinyl. The two photos below, of '74 Euro vinyl-and-cloth seats (non-Lux package), are from user LarsAlpina, and I would recommend you read Lars' Post #14 in the following thread:

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/162331-what-year-range-seats-are-these/?hl=%2Blars+%2Bcloth+%2Bvinyl#entry1021225

So, as Jim first posited above, I believe these seats were likely recovered in a nice, but not exactly authentic pattern (not coincidentally, I don't believe these covers have seen 122,000 miles).

The choice of cloth for the recovering, however, is interesting, and could reflect an earlier cloth interior. Why do I say that? Only because this car is a relatively rare example of a U.S.-spec Malaga car (originally) with a gray interior, gray being, nonetheless, the "factory-recommended" upholstery color for Malaga square taillight cars. But Hoffman Motors appears to have largely rejected grey interiors for the U.S. market and a European delivery might have provided the necessary leeway to get a gray and/or vinyl-and-cloth interior on a U.S.-spec car!

If I've mis-read the colors in the interior photos, and both the seats and door cards are not gray, please never-mind my gray interior ramblings!

Good luck with your sale,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for the input.  You're clearly a knowledgeable enthusiast!  Looks like there was some overstuffing :)  Very confortable to boot!  All of the door panels are in fact gray.  You bring up an interesting point!
