Whats this port on my new (to me) Weber 38?

Just comparing this new carb that I am gonna install tomorrow to my existing Weber 38 and I DO NOT have this port on it...what is it??  My old one looks similar but no port there.  Should I plug this on the new one?  Maybe for vacuum?  I have a mechanical advance Tii Dizzy, so no vacuum and maybe that explains what it is?  Been looking all over the net for a diagram to explain what this is...

I am going to hazard a guess here, that the 38/38 you have pictured was intended for a Jeep or some other car, not a 2002.  My 38/38 does not have that port.  It may be a fuel return line, don't know.

Where did you buy the carb?

I always do it right the second time.

Hmmm, yeah- that looks like it's from an OEM, I agree.

It would be really cool if it was a fuel return- the 'boiling fuel' crowd would love it.

My guess would be that it's a vent for the float bowl-

because the place when the float bowl usually vents looks different to me,

and it goes in the right direction-

but just pop the top and see!

And then post pix.

Bought it from a FAQ member that was using it on their 2002 for 6 months. It looks brand new. I was wondering if it was a newer model?
