Condensers: round vs square plug (again)

RAS-2002

Recommended Posts

So I've looked and found numerous postings about this, but no definitive answer.

It appears that Bosch condensers # 02-102 and 02-031 both have the square plug. They appear identical, except for the "orientation" of the securing tab. Pics attached.

However, I'm looking for an exact replacement for the condenser in the third picture, with the round plug (see whats this.jpg)

Does anyone know the Bosch part number for that and who might carry it?

Thanks,

-Bob

Before anyone suggests it, I know I can trim/cut down the square plug to make it round, but I'm looking for the actual Bosch p/n for the round plug condenser.

Thx again,

-Bob

I know that the old Bosch part number for the round-plug version that's oriented like the current (02-102) is the (02-090) with the full Bosch part #1-237-330-292.  You can sometimes find that NOS part on ebay.  But I guess you're really after the old part number for the one that's oriented like the current 02-031.  I think both of the round plug versions from Bosch are no longer produced and have been superseded to the ones with the square plugs.

The BMW part number for the (02-031) is 12-11-1-354-496.  I see that Pelican Parts sells the BERU version of that condenser, but it's hard to tell from the picture on their site whether the plug is round on the BERU made one or not.  Good luck,

John

EDIT: I just looked at an old tii 008 distributor that I have and it has the round plug version of the condenser that's oriented like the 02-031 and stamped on the bottom of the condenser is the Bosch part number 1-237-330-162 which is the same as the current (02-031) and it also says Made in Germany, so you know it's an old one.

Thanks to all who responded. It looks like the original condenser with the round plug is now made from that rare material, "unobtanium".  I think a big part of the problem is that many vendors are still using old stock pictures of the now-unavailable round-plug version.

I might be able to find a NOS part on ebay if I troll long enough. But that might yield a 40+ year-old part...

In the meantime, I'll just take my Dremel to a new Bosch "02 031" unit and round the corners, fitting that square peg in a round hole (Lord knows I have enough of these laying around...!)

And it appears that the Bosch unit for the VW is a "close, but no cigar" option. Oh, well.

It's certainly been a learning experience for me; and you are all great teachers!

Best,

-Bob
