installation question - air hose to snorkel

I am puzzled by the stock fitment of the air hose from the manifold to the snorkel. I was able to find an NOS rubber piece that snugs the hose to the snorkel hole but the repair manual shows that you are suppsed to stretch the rubber bit over the paper hose.

I haven't been able to figure out how to stretch the rubber and for now have it fitted like this with the hose over the rubber piece:

Could anyone give me a tip on how stretch the rubber over the air hose? Wresting with the thing has yet to accomplish the task.

Thanks, guys.

I lthink I'll go with the heat gun idea - the air hose is paper so mght not mix well with dripping hot water.

Now I just gotta grab the hair dryer when my wife isn't around...

The solution turned out to be less difficult than I assumed. I pulled the paper hose off the snorkel, peeled back the small rubber hose over itself on the flange, inserted the paper hose back over the flange, and then unpeeled the rubber hose, so to speak, and it popped right over the paper hose. Perhaps not as glamorous as the original factory installation but at least the assembly now looks more correct.
