Unless the paint is really bad (as in cracked, peeling or non-existent) I'd try compounding/polishing it.  Agave responds remarkably well to TLC and may be still nice under all that chalk.  

 

Love the original window sticker, BTW.  At least by '72 Hoffman wasn't showing $8 for the "optional" bumper guards and $2 for the "optional" chrome tailpipe extension!  But you never saw a US-spec 2002 without a tach, sway bars and vinyl upholstery!

Great find! I would agree that being so original it would be best kept that way, as there are fewer and fewer unmodified 2002s left in the world, but hey... To each his own

I love M2 modded cars and am definitely not an originality freak.  But this car deserves to be left alone.....Don't even polish it.  Looks like great patina and if it's rust free....fantastic.

 

Just sort the mechanicals and drive it.

My 2nd 2002 Automatic,  2534016, rust in peace, had a clock instead of a tach. swapped out the clock for a tach. drove it as DD from 1989-1994. Put Tii sway bars, eibach springs and Boge gas shocks and struts and it sported a Weber. Loved that car, it was so much fun to drive.
