electrical and ignition Cigarrette lighter not working

I can buy a cheap one at o'rielly's for 6 bucks. My question is if this thing will work and do i just pull out the old one? Is it screwed in or anything? I have searched but found only adverts for people selling.

IIRC the lighter socket on a 2002 is slightly larger than the "standard" American size socket, so I'd take my old lighter with me to check for compatibility.  Is it the lighter itself that has gone south, or the socket?  If the former, you can buy just the heating element--or at least you used to be able to, so you can use your original knob and housing.  If the latter, be sure and check your fuse first.  I can't recall either a lighter or socket on a 2002 going bad...

I'd keep my lighter original and search for elements.  The element is screwed in.  Counter-clockwise rotation to remove. 

 

I could not find replacement elements. NLA for a long time.

 

I visited a wrecker (of Euro cars) and spent an hour going through their lighter bin.  I snagged 2 perfect elements for $10.  Should last me a lifetime.

You might check the power lead that plugs on the back of the lighter to ensure it has not become disconnected....
