Don't know how rare these are (the only ones I've seen were in a car in a junkyard in 95 when I took them).Pretty cool, I'm sure the cars running around in Germany probably have them.

My car has the German language heater controls. I thought they all did. Maybe it was a Canadian (import) thing.

TK and Paul,

Are any other of your cars' instruments German language?

I used to visit Vilem Haan as well but could only afford a wood shift knob in 68. Here are a couple other items, VP key case and shot glass, electronic service guide for several models.

The VP stuff is really cool, collectible and valuable.  I used to live in Newport back in '85 (until '95) bought a really nice '86 MBZ 190e 2.3-16 off of Vasek's lot.  Hollywood producer car with 18k on it.  Turns out "someone" had butchered a repair on the cat/exhaust system - soon after I drove it off the lot it smoked, rattled - awful.  Called the salesman who essentially told me to pound sand.  Sent a (nice) letter (no internet or email then....haha) to Vasek Polak.  HIs assistant called me and apologized for the situation and asked me to take the car to the service facility of my choice since they didn't service MBZ and to send them the bill please.  It was about $1100 to replace the various parts.  I was promptly reimbursed.  Never met the man, but have been told by those that had that he was one-of-a-kind.  I still remember in their used car showroom one of his M49 CSL's - race battered paint, two flat tires.  I asked if it was for sale.....was told everything is for sale, at a price....

In my parts bin, I've got a black (71-73) Euro instrument cluster with a 200 KPH speedo and a clock instead of a tach. Tach's were rare on Euro 02's. I remember that 75 1802 4 speed that I owned while stationed in Germany in the early 80's had a clock instead of a tach.

Below is a pic of my VP license plate frame on my tii. I also have a VP box cutter, so cool.  I also have in my parts bin a Savage BMW, Azusa-Covina frame when they were located there in the late 70's/early 80's before they moved to Ontario. I do like vintage license plate frames. Chris, I still have the Santa Maria BMW frame I scored from you.

Rare find? You tell me...

Antenna jewel tips!

Rare, no more.

The other day I was with my wife at AC Moore, the craft store, and I saw a bag of 100 of these red plastic ornaments for ceramic Christmas trees. So I thinks to myself, "Hmmm.  For sh*ts and giggles, I wonder if..."

With my wife's 40% discount coupon, it was just a few bucks. They also had a bag of different colored ones. I chose the red ones.

I trimmed off the end (the 'body' is 5/8" long), measured my antenna (3mm diam.), drilled a 3mm hole into the plastic ornament, pulled off the old black plastic antenna tip and stuck the new one onto my antenna.

Viola!  Or Voila! Instant Jewel Tip!

The beauty is, depending on how crazy (or anal) you want to be, you can paint the tip to match your car, or you could even chuck it into a lathe and be really creative. With 100 of them in a bag, and a price-per-piece of next to nothing, your choices are endless! You could color code them for different days of the week. Let your kids decorate their own ones. Put glitter on 'em. What the hey, right?

Like I said, rare no more.

I know, I know; an idle mind is the Devil's workshop.

Best,

-Bob

Wow Bob, you made my day!

I almost spit out my coffee as I read your post. Too funny!

Incredibly detailed "how to"  :) and with photos, too.

I am somewhat new to the site and never new about the "jewel tip". I actually have one on my car, but all along just thought the

previous owner had put in on as an after market thing.

Thanks again for making my day.
