My 2002ti

Recommended Posts

Hello,

my Name is Carsten and I come from Germany.

5 years ago I found my 2002ti, March 1970, vin 1686573.

I was born in 1970 and grew up with grandfathers 1970 2002, vin 2627984.
That car was my first car from 1988-94 (rust) and I always wanted the 02 back.
2010 I found that ti: Italia Import, great Body structure, but it was an old unrestored car with lots of Problems. The technical Problems were soon solved, an old BMW runs everytime but is was time to do something.
Well, last year I had the hard decision:
Full Restauration or not...
I decided for full restauration.
I like Patina, but the paintwork was patchwork, also some bodywork from the owner before was awful when you did a look behind the curtain and the rust came and came more.
We Germans say: Eyes closed and and go through!
So let´s begin with a Picture before the nightmare...
This was the last drive before my purse was going to get flushed!

Best Regards
Carsten

Hello,

the project is now going along a bit slowly, because of missing parts.
Okay, we´re not at Overhaulin, so it doesn´t matter if it takes a bit longer.
Last week, the new stainless steel bumpers came and  took first place.
Well, the finish and quality is great but the fitment has to be adjusted.
Always the same with rebuild parts ..
We´re going on... :-)

Best Regards
Carsten

The ti is on the road and did the first 400km perfect! :)
He has still some problems with the new PHHs about idling, but that will be fixed soon when he goes to the carburettor specialist to get the PHHs calm...
The car is wonderful to drive and I never expected that a brand new 02 BMW ist so hard and dry in the chassis and the springs.
It makes lots of fun to throw him about about corners and the engine always says: Gimme more!!! B)

Best Regards with a big grin in the face,
Carsten

Many congratulations Carsten! The car looks fabulous. It is truly inspiring, I  admire your integrity and dedication to doing a first-class restoration. Your shop put the car through pretty quickly too, these things can take a long time. Please share more pictures with us. Again, what a fantastic beautiful car you have. Sincerely, Peter

Hello again,

the ti did the first 5000km nearly perfectly!
There are still some problems with the PHHs on ideling (Thanks to the ash... which sold them to me as refurbished and not "Overhouled") and after the Bvaria Tour the ignition distributor gave up. Okay, that happens! :)
The Bavaria Tour was fantastic!

326 cars of "new class", 02 and E3, E9 in Oberammegau. That was like in the 70s! In the evening is was fantastic. Everywhere in the town M10 or M30 sound
Awesome!
I let some pictures play ;)
