No no no, driving a 2002 is very different from driving a new M3.   There is nothing like the original 2002 experience, and the extent of personal involvement and satisfaction.

Plus the M3 driver you just described could never do anything to his car, not even  change the spark plugs or oil, It is a different generation and appreciation of involvement.

Look at this BMW 2002 driver, oversteering. He is really driving his car, he has no electronic management systems, or insulation from Poor judgment.

Part of the joy of a 2002 is it's authentic, fantastic handling and unvarnished driving experience. There's a reason they called It the ultimate driving machine. The BMW 2002 is iconic, it is all about great handling and driver involvement.

Celebrate your 2002, it is a magical vehicle.

Sincerely, Peter

Seems like I get more thumbs up attention from the Volkswagen crowd than anyone else when driving my 2002.

I did have two guys on this weird thing flag me down on the highway a few weeks ago, and tell me the 2002 was cool:

A Polaris Slingshot....Maybe they were waving their arms in panic instead of trying to flag you down,,,,

Loose: Not tightly bound. Subject to motion.
Lose: What happens when you are spell check dependent.

1975 Malaga. It is rusty and  springs an occasional leak.  Just like me.

I love my car, the only way to truly celebrate these things is to get out and drive them. It really saddens me when I see cars doomed to a display for the rest of their natural lives. I've driven both... The E90 M3 is great fun, in a different way. I would take a restored 02' any day of the week. Hence the sell it and get a Tii fine print ;)

Yikes, speaking of Alfa I was followed by a boat-tail duetto spider on my way home from school, not driving spiritedly although heheeh....

Beautiful sunny day today in the PNW, I was driving home with the windows down and got a loud shout out as I was stopped at a light. It took me a minute to figure out he was hollering at my car, I kept looking around for a pretty girl. I was a little slow on the uptake.

My wife drives a '73 tii to work most days. She gets lots of waves - everyone is happy to see a pretty lady driving a vintage car.

Dear Nesset, please forgive my myopic response.

Someday you too will need bifocal glasses, which were invented by one of our countries great founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin.

Originally BMWs were pure enthusiast driver cars, and I first rode in a BMW 1800 TISA, when I was four years old, in 1965. Our families first BMW was a 1600, and two years later my father bought a used BMW 1800 with a rod knock in the motor, for $200. BMWs became status symbols in the 1970s, the year the Izod alligator shirts, and expressions like die yuppie scum, became popular.  At some point early BMWs, and Porsches, were morphologically changed into status symbols rather  then celebrations of the driving experience.

The Evolution of BMWs from being famous for a  Zen like driving experience into a status symbol is hard to explain. If aliens visited our planet, they would say that the Activities of humans are the strangest mating rituals in the universe.

Unfortunately many modern BMWs are celebrated by people who consider the coconut oil smell of Zymol , and waxing thier car, an  intimate  German motoring experience and celebration.

This transformation of classic sports cars into collector vehicles upsets me. It means that less and less people will drive their cars, and more will be kept in air-conditioned garages by New York real estate Wall Street stockbroker types. I personally believe that BMW 2002s should be driven by guys who love oversteering, and having their knuckles bleed after working on their cars.

I am sorry I missed the fine print in your comment, you and I are in fact kindred spirits. Please consider every straightaway a drag race to your next corner, and I hope you enjoy oversteering through it.

All my best, Peter

Had thumbs up from this man driving this car last year.  I do see him riding his toys about 3-4 times a year.

One day I may!  I look forward to the day of a deeper knowledge than I have now about life, especially the automotive side of things.. Being a senior in high-school I see a lot of representations of "status symbol" cars. The community I reside in is a rather wealthy one for northern Washington. A few people at the school I go to drive late model three series cars, Mercedes Benz's and even a few Porsche's. Although, me and a friend drive our 2002's with the thought in the back of (at least mine) our minds that we know something others don't. The sheer pleasure of driving. It's a long forgotten and lost art and it's a shame to know automotive makers lost the sight of what's pure in this life. Especially once very driver-orientated vehicle makers such as BMW, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo and others. I have experienced many o' late night back road driving adventures and thanks to my 2002, I will cherish those memories until the day I die. When I am married, and have my dream Fjord Blue European square tail hidden away in the garage.. I hope to share the love of driving with my kids. Driving is something we all should be able to admire, enjoy and experience. At least once in our short lives.

Lovely cars we all appreciate here..
