lovely - can you share some pics of the cool interior? What a rare car- I'd "heard" these also had the lip of the front panel and the sill (rockers) painted black. Yours doesn't, but do you know if it came that way before the respray? Congrats on the best touring there is.

Hi Nick,

Original German owner brought the touring from Munich to northern inland San Diego county in 1974. As a machinist, he ventured to the US for better employment prospects. The tii was kept garaged and driven a relatively short distance to and from his work for years until his retirement. He did have car repainted in the 90's in original polaris, so rockers may have been black from factory. I discovered this touring listed on a German web site as for sale, posted by his cousin. Many emails and phone calls later, he arranged a meeting for me to come and see. Bought it on the spot back in 2002. Bill Holmes (aka, Bavarian Rennsport) in Ramona, CA went through it and rebuilt the original block, other mechanicals, ect. Factory "sport paket" included black Recaro seats with white piping, sport steering wheel, alloys, US-style front turn signals, and Hella fog lamps. Also has chrome inner door sills, but not sure if part of original package, interior needs a makeover and I've yet to find a source for correct front seat pattern vinyl.

More details on my friend's 1972 BMW 2000 Touring (LHD).  

 

Currently it's in York, PA and in excellent condition.  

 

I've confirmed owner is looking to sell.  But was wrong about the asking price. Sorry to those who reached out to me earlier and I gave you the wrong price 

 

This was previously an EAG car. I know he's selling for less than what they had sold it for.

I have a Touring! It was one of the very first imported to the US.(If not the first) I came over in Late 1973 or early 74. My dad bought it in 77. It was his daily driver through out the 80s.  My dad passed away in 1995 and my sister and I did not know where the car was for 20 years when by chance my sister was contacted by the guy who had it stored. We got it back in 2012.

Well, they are not that different to deserve their own space

 

@@2mAn, as for what is different?

 

Mechanically: they are the same as the standard 2002 or 1802. The only difference i know is the rear shocks.  They are stronger due to heavy glass in the rear.

 

Body: They are the same up to the A-Pillar. A-Pillar angle is different, thus the windshield is different and so is the wing window on the door.  The door sheet metal and main window glass are the same. Everything past the door is different including the tail lights  The car itself is about 4" or 6" shorter.

 

I have a one. It is even more special. Automatic with a single barrel water choke carb

I believe the roof is flatter, the rear valance is slanted differently, rear bumper returns shorter, exhaust exit is different and the obvious rear seat differences. They also could have a 3:45 rear.

all of the above, and re the valence, well the whole rear end is different! Yep, rear exhaust section is different as it exits underneath the spare wheel well. Fuel tank is unique too. Had the same diff ratios as the saloons dependent on the engine. Rear lights are even a little bigger. I'm sure a search would pop up with a thread listing this all before.

He's mainly a Porsche guy but pretty sure Tony could track down the correct seat pattern vinyl.  He did the headliner on my '02.  Top quality stuff.  It's fun just to go into his shop to see what he's working on.

Why were the tourings never imported to the United States o' Murica'? Just seems odd... My best guess was that there was no market for a small two door touring but... I dunno.
