Year:: 1975

Make:: BMW

Model:: 2002 Tii Turbo

Price:: 102000.00

Location: : Germany

I saw this auction on eBay and thought I would pass it along.  A 1975 BMW 2002 Tii Turbo in Chamonix over Black.  Looks like a very nice example, auction is currently at $61K, but advertised on-line for over $100K.  It will be interesting to see if it meets the reserve.

What I find amusing about this car, besides the fuse box cover, is that the front seats are not original, both front seats and rear seat have been reupholstered, comments about perfect door panels, though no chrome/Mylar strip, it has been repainted, plus a laundry list of other small items, and it is referred to as original and condition 1.

I'm sorry, WHAT???

 comments about perfect door panels, though no chrome/Mylar strip,

'74-'76 cars do not have the mylar strips on the door panels.

...but at 100k it should be awfully nice!

Agreed, Art....if some '02 nut -- like you, like me -- is buying the car. I suspect, however, that the target audience for a turbo such as this is much broader, perhaps someone filling out his/her collection of cars. Those details -- mostly easily fixed with some additional dinero, IF they ever get noticed by the buyer -- are less important than the overall appearance.

Hey, did they forget to paint the rocker panels black?

Best regards,

Steve

Sure they did!

Sorry for the grainy pic.

They lost the upper strips, but retained the lower one, 4-6" above bottom of panel. Since neither door panel on the eBay car has one, I called them strips. Sorry.

Not trying to pick it to death, but at 100k it should be awfully nice!

High dollar cars should be picked to death. For than price it should be Pebble Beach perfectly correct. A fuse box cover is $24.95 the cracked one is inexcusable. Thanks for clearing up the door card mylar strips.

Steve,

I think you are correct, these cars are being purchased more and more by non enthusiasts who really don't know what is right or wrong about them. My main peeve is when the cars are misrepresented by sellers, who also don't have a clue.

There is much about the interior that is not right, which leads me to believe that it had some issues. The red instrument cluster has the look of "rode hard and put away wet"! Hate to see this as becoming the norm for nice turbo's.

I prefer the black rockers, though I've seen them either way ;)

Andrew,

I think as you do, that the attention to detail is what should bring the big dough. This car falls down in many respects, but I guess it boils down to who is writing the check. I also wonder what the underside looks like for 100k. Better be able to eat off of it. Haha!

One last note, by VIN it is a 74.

..."rode hard and put away wet"!...

Yep! And every time I look at it, I see more evidence of this. You can't convince me the large gap between the left front fender and left door is how the car left the factory...

And why are there shadow lines where both front fenders meet the nosepiece, on the seams that were brazed and leaded by the factory?

But if flawed turbos are, indeed -- it waits to be seen -- worth $100K, isn't that nonetheless good for all '02 owners? A rising tide lifts all boats....

Steve
