Caliper weather seals removal

pierre²

Recommended Posts

I have e24 calipers with FAG rubber seals

those without apparant metal clips,

I try with a hard plastic stick

to remove them< my only success was to reverse the lips on the inside of the piston,

Any trick tool, or could I pop up the piston even with the seal ( weather protective one ).

For getting the old ones out?

Just blow the piston out, they come right along.

For reinstallation,  I find it works best to stretch the things right over the

piiston bore, and as the piston slides into place, the boot then can be slipped

into its grooves.  It sounds tricky, but the boot's designed that way, so it usually

goes right in.

Occasionally, you have to do it twice.

...nor reliable. Never had a problem with one that I put a kit into, but rebuilds seem to be

somewhere between 60 and 80% effective, and when you get a bad one, often what you get is so

bad it's not rebuildable. Got a Mitsu caliper with a piston from... a Zero? in it. Total PITA,

took twice as long as just re- sealing the old one would have taken.

Made a much bigger mess and killed a set of good pads, too.

That's me,
