Will this work? Starter motor ID required

I will take some detailed measurements this weekend. Looking at the link that Andrew provided (assuming that each is the same motor) the new one has a much smaller 'nose' than the existing.

I had a good look at this over the weekend. The new one is loads smaller than the existing. The mounting holes are 75mm apart on the new one and the existing one is more like 100mm.

No dice.

Hmm, your pics confuse me- in the top one, the caliper's not zeroed, as the gradations show about 100mm,

but the display shows 75.

And thinking about it, I don't remember ever seeing a BMW with a MUCH smaller starter mount, which 75mm would be.

In the lower one, it looks like you're measuring something related to the solenoid?  Or was that just where the caliper's resting?

Corn-fuzed,

Errrr you are correct (well spotted - in a rush and juggling my phone, the calipers and the motor ) but this was me transferring the same relative measurement between the two. The second photo is supposed to show the calipers showing the hole spacing of the fitted motor and it was nowhere near and the installed angle and solenoid prevented me replicating the measurement for the photo. I stopped looking after that and didn't think about the absolute measurement too much.

You had to be there...
